I know I just kinda wrote out a to-do list in Monday’s post but my brain is screaming in anxiety today and it helps to write lists. So I’m going ahead with my August state of the union.
1. Dr Crusher is DONE!
Finished her up last week, last few details like sewing in magnets for the communicators, styling the wig.
The only thing left to do is finish my tricorder, which if it’s not done in time is not a big deal. Costume is wearable.
I just need to try it all on! I have not felt like doing that yet tho. Maybe this weekend.
2. Hera is at like 90%.
Jacket is done. I think i’m going to add one more snap.
I’m going to use some floral spray paint to get all my vinyl pieces a touch more blue. I got 2 shades, may use both for some variations.
While I’ve got the boot covers off the shoes I’m going to tweak the fit at the heel a bit.
I did make my upper glove pieces, they’re OK…. I might remake them. They are kinda messy.
I still need to paint and decorate my circlet, and make my earrings. Just ordered some blue wire that will hopefully work for attaching the beads.
Finally got all my makeup in – got 2 yellow lipsticks because I wasn’t sure which would look best.
3. Padme is where most of my work is left.
I got the rest of my fabric last week. Last night I got the new back panel cut out and started getting stuff pinned together, gathered, etc. I’ll cover all that in next week’s post.
My to-do list is thus:
1. Finish the underdress, the biggest thing here is to finish hand-sewing the lining at the edges of the skirt insets. I had started this a while back and wasn’t happy with how it was looking so I stopped to think about it. I think I stopped too long because now I can’t remember what was working and what wasn’t :\ I’ll probably figure it out when I get in there. I also need to tack the bust darts down and get the collar sewn on, and a hook-and-eye in place.
2. Outer dress – finish gathering the edges (left side top front and left side sleeves), get all the panels assembled.
3. Make the trim for the outer dress. I decided to make it instead of buying poly so it dyes better. Here’s hoping I bought enough fabric. Get it made and attached to the outer dress.
4. Pray. Then dye both outer and inner dress. Kinda thinking about buying 3 little wading pools to do this in instead of bins. So there’s more room to see where dye is going on the dress… although I just priced kiddie pools and I don’t thinK I want to spend an extra $30 on buying them. boo well that was good idea, guess I’ll stick with bins.
5. Alter shoes. I bought some shoes that ended up a tiny bit too big but I think if I’d gone down a size they’d be too small. So going to put a shoe insert inside, I think that will help; and I also need to remove the ribbon tie that came with them, going to just make it a buckle.
6. WIG, ugh. I hope I bought enough extensions and I don’t have to do an emergency arda order. So I’ve got my wig, extensions… need to style it. I’m going to do it pretty much how I did my hairpiece in the past, just on a full wig this time. And hopefully a little cleaner looking. I think instead of a foam bump in the back I may make a full conical shape out of fabric and batting. we’ll see. I gotta get in there and try stuff. I hope to do this this weekend.
7. Make the headbands. THANK GOD for all the amazing photos of these from the recent exhibitions of it. I bought some grey pearls for them, hope they work, they haven’t arrived yet. Planning on making a basic shape out of wire with this air clay stuff I got from arda over the top. Get them painted and sewn in place on the wig – planning on adding some loops on the bottom so I can sew it in as much as possible and only glue as necessary.
8. Armbands… they just need painted and the mother-of-pearl stickers added.
9. Necklace… WE STILL HAVE THE OLD MOLD FROM 2006 AND WE ACTUALLY FOUND IT IN THE GARAGE! So Chase is going to cast it, get it painted, mother-of-pearl sticker added. I need to figure out a closure.
I’m REALLY hoping to dig in on this and mark a LOT of this off my to-do list this weekend. We have no plans this weekend so I’m hoping I can just GO on this starting Friday night thru Sunday night. My goal is to have the dress done (I think making and attaching the trim is going to take the most time. Doing it by hand) this weekend and get the wig styled. If I can get all that done I’ll feel better about everything.
4. Belle is officially dropped. There’s no way I could’ve gotten to this… even if I hadn’t added Misato in the mix for ABC. I’m aiming for MCFC for her now.
5. Jedi Leia
I need to glue one of the button covers back on the belt, and Chase 3d printed a lightsaber for me. Need to get that finished up but like my tricorder it’s not a big deal if it doesn’t get finished.
6. Carrie
Gary needs a little love; need to get my felting needle out and get some of his fur stuck back in. Probably going to dye and restyle the wig but that shouldn’t take long.
7. Crait Leia
Finally made some new progress on this this past weekend.
Still need to machine sew the right sleeve on and press everything. I’m hoping after a good pressing it won’t need that top stitch on the front edge.
Finish styling the wig – my grey hair nets came in yesterday so now I feel like I can finish it up.
8. Donna
Donna doesn’t need anything except a hair colour refresh on me and that’s scheduled for next week LOL.
I had a little fun costume I was going to throw together at the last minute but I dunno if I’m going to have time. I may throw Garth and/or Comfy ariel in my bin as downtime costumes. Neither of them take up much space or require much effort to get into – comfy Ariel would be great for dealer’s room shopping.
So schedule as it stands…
11AM friday is the Leia shoot. SUPER tentative, really want to go to the dealer’s room. If I go I’ll be in Jedi Leia.
4PM Lore Olympus – definitely going to try to get to this one because I feel like Hera would do best at a meetup and not out on her own.
Saturday – nothing. Trying to keep it open for photo-ops.
11AM Sunday is tentatively the Padme shoot I think? I’ll be wearing the lake dress to this.
Otherwise I have no idea when I’m wearing what. Let’s come up with a vague idea.
Thursday: Probably Crait Leia at some point, to get it out of the way because it’s bulky and uncomfortable. Might throw on Crusher or Jedi Leia later that night.
Friday: Jedi Leia in the morning maybe for Leia shoot. Hera in the afternoon. ?? at night. something easy to move in in the crowd.
Saturday: Donna for photo-ops only. Maybe Padme lake at some point, Crusher at some point.
Sunday: Padme for Padme shoot. Maybe Hera again? Crusher if we go to the ST pageant. ?? late at night.
Monday: Comfy Ariel with bad hair from wearing wigs all weekend LOL
